Our self-directed study course Foundations in Clinical
Aromatherapy is intended for licensed Health Professionals
(LHPs). This course has just been radically updated and
improved and we are sure you will love it!
The course was designed to give a solid theoretical basis
of how to use essential oils clinically. The course complies
with the guidelines laid down by NAHA (The National Association
for Holistic Aromatherapy). The course leads to a Certificate
in Clinical Aromatherapy. 45 CEUs for nurses and massage
therapists.

Biosynthesis - how and why plants make essential oils
Lesson three
Methodology, absorption and interaction with conventional
drugs
Lesson four
Extraction, adulteration, tests for purity
Lesson five
Plant taxonomy: identification, genus, species, chemotypes
Lesson six
Basic organic chemistry and functional groups -so you understand
how essential oils work
Lesson seven
Physiology and psychology of smell in man and animals
Lesson eight
Safety, storage, contraindicated essential oils. Material
Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
Lesson nine
Doses, conversions, infants and the elderly, herbal extracts
versus essential oils
Lesson ten
15 essential oil monographs that include: description of
plant, folklore and history, method of extraction, main chemical
groups, safety, adulteration, toxicity, evidence-based clinical
uses (referenced), method of clinical application, Where
possible research abstracts are given.
Resource guide: glossary, reading list,
organizations, useful journals, research journals used to
compile monographs, recommended distributors, format for
aromatherapy case-study, sample consent form, evaluation
sheet, application for final test paper, application for
CEUs.

Foundations in Aromatherapy is a stand-alone
course leading to a Certificate in Clinical Aromatherapy.
It is much shorter and quite different from the taught course Clinical Aromatherapy
for Health Professionals that awards practitioner
status (CCAP).
