Mitzi A. Forbes, Ph.D., RN,
CHTP, CCAP
Mitzi
Forbes, Ph.D., RN is a faculty member at the Milwaukee School
of Engineering. She received her AD degree in nursing (RN)
from Eastern Arizona College in 1978, followed by a BS in
nursing from Brigham Young University in 1984, and a Ph.D.
with a major in nursing and a minor in psychology from the
University of Arizona in 1998. Her clinical focus has been
among chronically ill elders, in the community and at the
end-of-life.
Dr. Forbes began studying Healing Touch in 1992, and began
the RJ Buckle program in clinical aromatherapy in 2003. She
is a certified practitioner of both. Her early research focused
on spirituality in health care, especially among the elderly
and at the end-of–life. Now she combines her interest
in spiritual care with an interest in researching complementary
therapies, knowing that there needs to be a strong evidence
base established for complementary therapies before they are
widely accepted in mainstream health care. She has published
several research studies on Healing Touch and aromatherapy,
and continues to do research to establish the base. She also
acts as a consultant and collaborator to nurses who wish to
conduct research and publish studies in complementary therapies.
She has a chapter on Complementary and Alternative Therapies
published in a nursing textbook. She has been a reviewer
for the Journal of Complementary and Alternative Medicine,
Applied Nursing Research, and Social Science and Medicine.
Dr. Forbes is happy to travel nationally and internationally
to teach.
