Debar BarrettEllen McMahon

Ellen has an associate degree in nursing from Mt Aloysius Junior College 1965, a BSc nursing and a masters in Holistic nursing from the College Of New Rochelle. She has 40 plus years of nursing experience in medical – surgical, cardiology, maternal – child health and hospice. Holistic health has been a long time interest and she has certifications in reflexology, aromatherapy, the ‘M’ Technique, imagery and meditation. She has license in massage with specialization in hospice, cancer, pregnancy and infants. Ellen has been a Therapeutic Touch practitioner for over fifteen years. She also studied  with Jon Kabat-Zinn learning Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction techniques. In 1988 she studied Navajo health care at the University of Arizona and maintains an on going interest in Indian health care.

Currently Ellen works in a holistic care department at St John’s Riverside Hospital in Yonkers, where she has practiced  her  holistic modalities for the last ten years. Two days a week, Ellen works with the patients in the residential substance abuse program at St John’s using  complementary thearpies which have been extremely helpful for pain, anxiety and sleeplessness.

Ellen is a mentor to graduate students in Holistic Nursing at the College of New Rochelle. She is also a visiting lecturer in holistic nursing at Cochran Nursing school in Yonkers. She also works at Jansen Memorial Hospice in Tuckahoe NY, on contract, to provide complementary therapies.

Previously, Ellen worked at Columbia Presbyterian in New York City in their Complementary Cardiac Care Department under Dr Mehmet Oz where she first met Jane Buckle. She attended the M Technique Instructor course with Dr Jane Buckle in February 2009 at the Texas Harris Methodist Medical Center, Fort Worth, TX.
