Brenda C. Walters, CCAP, CMT, CD(DONA), CIMI

Brenda Walters background is in therapeutic massage therapy with specialties in deep tissue work (Myoskeletal Alignment Technique) and pregnancy massage.  She has been a certified massage therapist since 1998 and maintains a private practice in Oklahoma City.  She is the developer of “Communication Through Touch”, a protocol for couples massage used as an adjunct to traditional psychotherapy.  She has been a speaker at an AWWON conference, the International Wellness Conference in Galveston, Texas, and at many area health conferences.  She has been a contract instructor at the Heritage College covering overviews of pregnancy and infant massage and the role of the doula.

Another aspect of Brenda’s practice is as a certified doula (professional childbirth coach) and she was a charter member and officer of the Doula Association of Oklahoma (DACO) and is a member of the Doula Association of North America (DONA).  She is a certified instructor of infant massage and a member of the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM).  She is also a practicing Reiki Master and uses this technique when working with clients pre and post surgery and with clients going through traditional cancer treatments.

In 2004 Brenda completed Jane Buckle’s Aromatherapy for Health Professionals course to become a Certified Clinical Aromatherapy Professional and an ‘m’ Techniques Practitioner.  In January 2005 she was certified as an ‘m’ Technique instructor.  She is a member of The National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA).  She has been invited to speak on the subject of clinical aromatherapy during the fall of 2005 at the Mind, Body, Spirit Institute of Integris Baptist Medical Center , before the Therapeutic Recreation Association of Oklahoma (TRAO), and at the Oklahoma Nurses’ Association (ONA) Conference.

During her course for certification as a clinical aromatherapist, she completed a randomized controlled study comparing the effects of deep tissue work with the effects of the ‘m’ Technique and essential oils.  She continues to use both essential oils and the ‘m’ Technique inher ongoing massage, doula and developing aromatherapy practices.
