USA Research into the 'M' Technique®

In 1996, research was carried out at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Centre, New York. The ‘M’ Technique® was applied to the legs of volunteer medical students who were connected to an 8 lead EKG monitor to measure relaxation response. The EKG showed positive response within 5 minutes.

In 2005, a two part clinical study was carried out at University of Pennsylvania using SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography) analysis to compare the effects of the 'M' Technique to conventional (Swedish) massage. A radiopharmaceutical was injected intravenously into subjects before and after the intervention and 65 areas of the brain were compared. Significant differences emerged. The 'M' Technique® appeared to have a more profound effect and that effect increased when the M was repeated over time. The research was funded by the American Massage Foundation and the findings were presented at the American Massage Therapy conference in Cincinnati, OH in September 2007. The study was published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine in October 2008. For abstract please click here.
